Daniel Tortoledo is a Venezuelan/American singer-songwriter currently residing in the city of Vienna. His high-energy indie/rock music style has been often compared to the likes of The Kinks, David Bowie, The Beatles, Blur and The Strokes. Upon his departure from New York City in 2022, Tortoledo began to play in the local Vienna music scene along with Joost Scheltes (guitar/vocals), Gabriel Espinal (bass) and Alex Kühmayer (drums). Daniel Tortoledo & The Sound Machine was created.

The album’s pillars of continuity are quite impressive as seen in tracks like You Can’t Have It All and the free-spirited Bottles of Wine. Through out These Years by Daniel Tortoledo is a true melodic masterpiece for the post-modern era.

‘‘With a vibrant strut in his groove and a gilded poetic bend to his words, Daniel Tortoledo doesn’t hold back from giving us a mountain of a melodic performance in “Spare Time,” one of my favorite songs from his album Through out These Years. Released last year to relative acclaim from critics and longtime indie followers alike, this rookie release from Tortoledo sees the singer/songwriter melding the wry wit of indie rock with the easygoing folk stylings of a young Cat Stevens in tracks like “Bottle of Wine,” the title cut and “Give Me Soul.” Through out These Years is indeed quite the multilayered affair, but for all it boasts in grandiose compositional charm, it also offers us just as much of a simplistic, harmony-centric approach to songcraft…
Daniel Tortoledo: Through Out These Years Album Review: A Rock & Roll Ride
Rock is the perfect music to create an exciting mood. The wide array of instrumentals used to create a pulse-pounding rock beat can create tunes that make you bob your head to bang it, making the genre one full of life. Daniel Tortoledo proves this in “Through Out These Years,” an album that will take you on a wild ride all on its own. From the top, Tortoledo commands your attention with his intro track “Dark Times (Brothers and Sisters.)”
The raspy vocals are complimented well by the creeping bassline behind them at the start of the track. It creates the perfect mood for the groovy aesthetic the track falls into, full of instrumental surprises hidden within the bass groove and wild guitar riffs. “I’ve seen people living, I’ve seen a whole lot of people die, and all I will remember is how many times they smiled” is just one of the catchy lines outside of the lively chorus in this track. The upbeat and lively aesthetic is carried all the way through to “You Can’t Have It All,” another stand-out track.

Daniel Tortoledo is a musician from New York who recently released his first solo album entitled Through Out These Years. Before his solo endeavor he was involved first with his original band The Highway with whom he performed and toured continuously for over a decade.Through Out These Years is an album that I think will have a lot of appeal. There were times I heard Americana based rock not far from bands like Wilco or War on Drugs. That being said you can easily make an argument for legends such as Bowie and The Beatles in places.
This is an exceptionally produced and recorded album. That fact really makes these performances shine through. The album is just a little over half an hour and it felt seamless and cohesive. I suggest playing this from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

Daniel Tortoledo’s debut, solo album takes inspiration from a range of music all of which seems to fall into what you would call “classic.” Such music, encompassing everything from Neil Young to George Harrison, Bob Dylan to Devendra Banhart, not so much avoids generic labels but rather rise above such unnecessary limitations. And so does Through Out These Years. Sure, it wanders through rootsy rock, folk flavours, Americana vibes and singer-songwriter tastefulness but the end result has that perfect combination of integrity and accessibility and it is that balancing act which elevates such music.
Eloise is a gorgeously tasteful blend of alternative country and folk rock, an immediate candidate for world-wide radio play right there, Bottle of Wine is a 60’s infused pop-rocker and Spare Time is a lilting and likeable slice of textured and chiming, pop perfection…
